Kaye P. McKee, D.Min., Executive Director

(Personal Pronouns: she/her/hers)

Kaye P. McKeeKaye's been married to David for 35+ years. They are parents to two incredible—and incredibly different—daughters, Arielle and Bethany, who, though living thousands of miles distant, serve on the Spacious Board.

Kaye ministers through writing and through A Spacious Place: the nonprofit birthed by her doctoral project. A confirmed God geek, Kaye earned her doctorate in Christian Nurture, as well as a Masters degree in Religious Education with a Childhood Specialization, and a Masters in Pastoral Ministry. A passionate supporter of education for all, Kaye seeks to provide a rich and welcoming learning environment for the persons A Spacious Place serves.

Kaye is shamelessly addicted to writing and to reading: especially the works of C. S. Lewis, Madeleine L’Engle, and Janet Evanovich. She’s a fan of long walks, messy collaging, and crunchy peanut butter. Also driving through the Texas Hill Country while belting out Eagles tunes.

Life motto: "The Queen of Hearts is always your best bet. (“Desperado” by The Eagles)"

Spirit Whispers

"I've got nothing against God. It's his fan club I can't stand"

We are Jesus followers, called to be Christ in our city: to open arms wide in welcome, to offer spiritual nurture to the famished, to creatively and compassionately share our good news. We are Jesus followers, called to be Christ in our world: to lift cups of cold water to parched lips, to comfort the suffering, to hope for the hopeless, to show each soul her worth.

Kaye's doctoral project, Spirit Whispers (1 Kings 19:11-13), serves creative people in Central Texas by translating Gospel truth into the language of metaphor, and by providing a welcoming space in which they may meet God through the creation of art: a space free of manipulation, shaming, or judgment. Spirit Whispers arts guides received training in biblical metaphor, in pastoral-care principles, and in spiritual practice so they might provide true sanctuary for creatives.

The first Spirit Whispers course began on January 6th, 2008, and ran for eight weeks. Participants in Spirit Whispers were welcomed to display their work in the Journey IFC Warehouse during Holy Week and on Easter Sunday.
